Romance Novel Writing Style
If you’re still deciding what the best romance novel writing style is, go with drama. you won’t go wrong with it.
Drama is when a person does an amazing thing with equally amazing results. Drama is what makes a story fun and interesting and without it, your story is like a car that ran out of fuel…it just can’t go on.
Drama is a necessary part of every story. A little conflict always livens up the plot and creates just the right amount of conflict will ensure that your readers keep reading. In romance novels, drama is a very essential element and it is precisely what makes every romance novel different from the other.
You start by establishing your characters, the setting and the conflict or drama. This is where you start to set the stage or the ambience against which your plot is set. Next comes the rising or succeeding action where your drama should start to unfold.
This is the part where the characters must start to get interesting, the part where the readers must get caught up in as the characters start to resolve the conflicts that have arisen. The drama should start to unfold quickly as if it doesn’t happen fast enough, your reader loses interest and gets bored.
A great example of rising action would be to inject a revenge angle in your story. Almost always in romance novels, that would be in the form of a love triangle where the third person is the one who plots revenge and carries it out.
In line with this, you should consider including “mean and despicable” characters who will undeniably make your main protagonist’s life miserable and make your readers take sides. This revenge angle should come to a satisfying climax making the reader unable to put the book down.
However, be careful about putting in too much drama. Let your imagination take over and get the details exactly right. Again, remember that conflicts arising in the story and the characters striving to resolve it is what brings your story to life.
Too much of a bad thing or a good thing won’t seem real to your reader and thus make them lose interest in the story. Don’t make it too predictable as well to the point that the readers are able to guess the ending in the middle of the story as they won’t read it to the end.
Writing a romance novel can be fun. Learn to experiment with your characters and make sure to endow them with enough human attributes your readers can relate to. Imagine how they will react to these characters and make sure that the resolution in the end, will be emotionally satisfying and humanly optimistic.
